The Last Day at Forever And A Day

Storefront of Forever And A Day metaphysical shop on its final day, March 22, with closing signage and last-day atmosphere

The day has finally come. Forever And A Day closed its doors after a hectic day filled with shoppers and the nonstop ding of the cash register. It was a sound that had long meant life, movement, and continuity. Yesterday, it sounded like a countdown.

I can still feel the ache in my feet, deep in my bones from standing in not only body, but presence as well. Tonia, Tara, Sherry and I stood for long stretches of time, moving in a rhythm we didn’t have to think about anymore. Whether it was helping, answering, guiding, or holding space, we were up and moving. Sherry danced around us (because that’s the only way to describe it) filling in every gap and lifting every moment she could.

We were tired and trying not to feel the ending while standing right inside of it.

It was hectic, beautiful, and (for me) an unbearably sad day.

People came in to shop and to witness; to be part of the final breath of something that had meant so much to so many. There was laughter, and long hugs…and there were also moments where people just stood, taking it in. You could feel it in the air…closure.

Because there is always a “last.”

A last day, a last reading, a last event, a last gathering…the last breath of a place that once felt endless.

On March 22, we reached all of them.

Samantha became the last reader, and the final soul to hold space in the Woodstock Salt Cave. Her sound bath closed both an event but also an era. That cave… was not just a room filled with salt. It was the only true salt cave in Georgia, formed for halotherapy with a halogenerator, something genuinely rare. There are salt rooms, yes… but that cave held something different. It held stillness and healing. And yesterday, it fell silent.

And then… the last customer ever of Forever And A Day. Me.

It still doesn’t feel real to say that.

Tara looked at me with that mix of wonder and knowing and said, “This is it. This is a thing now. This is the last purchase at Forever And A Day. You have that now.” Sherry teased, lightening the weight just enough, and said, “You’ll go down in history. The last shopper.”

But it didn’t feel like history. It felt like holding something fragile in my hands and realizing there would be no next moment to return to. Just that one.

My heart is heavy in a way that isn’t quite settled. But underneath it, there is a quiet knowing…this is not the end. Not really. It is the end of an address, but the threads that were woven there didn’t close with those doors. Even Karen said as much as she came through, yesterday. “New beginnings.”

It reminds me so deeply of Fried Green Tomatoes. That final scene where what once stood strong is gone, but not lost. When the memory breathes life back into something that no longer exists in form, but still exists in the feelings it produced in the community. There was such a strong sense of nostalgia, where you can almost hear the echoes if you close your eyes.

That is what yesterday was.

A living memory.

It was a final scene wrapped in sound, light, and the weight of knowing you will never stand in that exact moment again. And yet… it was so full of love.

Tara gave me a photograph she took of a bee. It is something already sacred to her; a symbol tied to her beloved cat on the other side. On the back, she wrote words I will carry with me always.

Tonia gave me a shamanic tool: wood, hollowed and holding quartz. Something that had already been worked with and already been lived with, now passed into my hands to continue its story. Living magic.

Sherry gave me a piece of white aragonite from Mexico. It feels like something you hold when you need to remember who you are.

Jennifer with J Ellis Designs (formerly Lava Life Vending) came in, too, and brought me one of her beautiful bracelets that I had quietly loved for a hot minute. It is made of angel aura quartz, terahertz, gold. A piece that feels like both ending and beginning all at once.

And I gave something to my friends, as well. They are small resin pieces, made with intention. Each one holding a gold dragonfly, pressed flowers, prehnite, amethyst…and even a bit of dirt from Forever And A Day itself. A way to take the physical space with us. To carry “home” not as something held in the palm of your hand.

Because that’s what it became.

Home.

I will forever miss this time in my life; the rhythm and the energy of it. I will miss the quiet moments between the noise. The giggles over nothing, and deep discussions where I learned so much of who I actually am. I will miss the way it felt to belong to something that so many others also felt.

No, it is not the end. It is a closing. It is a soft and sacred folding of a chapter that mattered. And somewhere, whether we can see it yet or not, something new is beginning to unfold.
